TTriumph Tiger 955i (2001)

2003 - 2007
Triumph Tiger 955i
MCN Review
Triumph Motorcycles
★★★☆☆
Triumph Tiger 955i
Nick and Chris had 3 of these between them and indeed they were the bikes that started them off on their touring / adventure bike activities.  Chris' first was a standard 955i and his second and Nick's only 955i were Special Edition models.  They were iconic bikes with plenty of character but not always the easiest to handle...

Nick's Tiger 955i SE
Having bought the Zed, my attention turned to the Fazer, now nearly 4 years old and heading for 26,000 miles, albeit with a new chain and sprockets, I wanted something to tour on. Triumph were offering 955i Tigers with panniers, heated grips and a centre stand for £6999 which seemed like really good value. So, encouraged by Chris' love of the brand, I took the plunge in March 2005. The Tiger was great, used for commuting and my first two tours with Chris, 2005 to the Lakes and the first Passport Tour in 2006. It was a bit tall after the Fazer and the Zed, and I remember the first time I stopped at traffic lights on the way to work, the ground seemed a long way down!

Chris' Tiger 955i SE
After a couple of years on the green 955i Chris then exchanged it for a 955i SE in Silver on which he did another trip to Wales and his first tour with Nick to the North of England.

It was a great bike and had the Triumph 3 box hard luggage which made touring really easy.  The wheels were the first tubeless ones on a Tiger and it had heated grips - luxoury!

Chris' Tiger 955i
Once Chris had got his full motorcycle license in the bag there was no question that a proper bike was required.  For Chris there was no choice it had to be a Triumph.  Chris has always been a fan of things made in Britain, especially when they are good.  Also he had seen a few Triumph Tigers and was immediately attracted to there unique style.

His first Tiger was a bright green 995i.  He bought it from Metropolis trading in the Rebel.  It did me very well and took me on my first biking trip to Wales with Tim, Andy and co from Southfields.

At first Chris found it very hard keeping up with the other experienced riders but then he really settled into it and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
