Study the passes we ride...

Passo del Gavia  2,621m Italy ★★★★★

Passo del Gavia
Ridden...
2014

Description...
We first rode Passo del Gavia (SP29) in 2014.   It was towards the end of one of our best ever days Alpine pass riding.  As such its quite hard to distinguish it from all the other passes - also it was raining.  Albeit we liked so much we also rode it a second time two days later!

We approached from the south, Ponte di Legno, here the pass is made up of relatively light technical bends, with a  cracked surface at the bottom, which is much improved with a white centre line further up.  On our first ride it was very wet, more like a river.  Further up it gets really narrow albeit with great surface, towards the summit, there was loads of snow with buildings and a decent car park.  Better road surface all the way down, very technical with 180 degree switchbacks in places.

All in all a great pass with a whole variety of road types and scenary.
