Study the passes we ride...

Col du Pillon 1,546m Swtitzerland ★★★

Col du Pillon
Ridden...
2006, 2015

Description...
Last ridden 2015 from Aigle to Gstaad.   First ridden in 2006 the other way around.  This report based on 2015 experience...

Wiggled up the side of the mountain, built up. Then pastures with chocolate box houses. Built up on one side with tight-ish curves so very difficult to get past slow moving traffic.  Lovely surface but not a fast pass, hard wall on one side, vertical drop the other! Large fence all the way up though and as always, stunning views.  Hairpins but quite wide, the challenge is that the contour risers are not that straight and so vision is restricted quite badly and/or there’s too much traffic. Generally fairly built up too, houses and gardens all
along.  Slightly faster and more open up to the top. School bus passed on the way. Fabulous base cable car station at the summit. Down the other side, straighter and faster, joined the railway in the valley on the way down to Gstaad.

The first time we road we came the other way from Interlaken.  Without realising we also rode the Saanenmoser pass!   When we arrived at Col du Pillon we pulled in to the car park and mucked around in the snow!  None there in 2015...  On our 2006 visit we took a left at Ormont-Dessus and bagged Col de la Croix on the way to Bex.
